CLIMATE & WEATHER

Since we are located 10˚ north of the Equator, the general climate is tropical. How much so depends on a few variables. Altitude is the biggest factor in temperature and humidity. We live at about 2800 ft where the weather is “fresco” as we say. That means that we are most often 10-20 degrees cooler than an average west coast beach. We also have more wind, less humidity and fewer mosquitoes than the beach. On a given day in November it may rain and be 50˚ F at night and 70˚ F during the day. In March or April, it may be 75˚ F by 7am but seldom reaches more than 90˚ F. Equatorial proximity in combination with the altitude makes the sun very potent down here. Bring your rain gear and your sunscreen.

Here is a link to the current weather down here.

There are theoretically two seasons here, the “green” and the “dry”. The books say that December through April are dry and May through November are green (wet). DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A RULE! We planned this event for March to hit the dry time. If we are lucky, we might experience dry days with afternoon or night time showers. We’ll see!

DAYS & NIGHTS:
Daylight Savings Time is ignored and the clocks don’t change here. Sunrise is typically 5-6am and sunset 5-6pm, all year long. Tico people get up early, work hard and go to bed early. We typically get up early, pretend to work hard and stay up late!
